In the context of the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP 26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the European Union and the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) will host the high-level event, « The EU-OACPS Partnership: Enhanced Cooperation on Climate Action and the Use of Scientific Information to Build Resilience » on 9 November.

The resolutions of COP26, which takes place in Glasgow, Scotland (UK) from October 31 to November 12, 2021, are highly anticipated, given the concern of youth activists since 2019 who are demonstrating against the inaction of world leaders in the face of the climate emergency.
Thousands of young people, led by Swedish youth leader Greta Thunberg, took to the streets of Glasgow on November 5 to protest against the devastating effects of rising temperatures due to man-made greenhouse gas emissions and the inertia of the world’s major polluters.
The OACPS provides significant support on issues related to environmental protection and the fight against climate change. The success of the 21st UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in Paris (COP21) in December 2015 was partly due to the symbiosis of forces between the OAPS and the EU. Several OACPS programmes and projects were launched in the context of COP21. This is the case of the Action against Desertification. Launched under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) intra-ACP program and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, this programme aims to combat the negative socio-economic and environmental effects of land degradation and desertification in the OACPS countries.
The same applies to the BIOPAMA programme, which is dedicated to biodiversity and the management of protected areas. This programme aims to improve the long-term conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in the OACPS countries. With a budget of €12 million under the 11th EDF for the period 2017-2023. This program is jointly implemented by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). {{Ghislain Zobiyo}}
